Purpose:
The Spectrum Wilderness Program provides an innovative, holistic approach to learning for teens that are at risk at school, home, or community. The program is designed to deal directly with behaviors related to self concept, accountability, self limiting beliefs and fears, trust and support, mutual responsibility, individual and group problem solving, and personal challenge. Spectrum is highly individualized to help students fulfill their special needs and goals.
Remarks:
The Spectrum Wilderness Program serves all of Illinois. Office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Spectrum utilizes the simple wilderness environment and have the teens try something new and cope with psychologically stressful situations. The desired outcome is the cognitive and personal growth. Each course is about 30 days in length. The course includes an Immersion Phase, a Training Expedition, a Major Expedition, and a Solo Experience. To be eligible for the program, teen must be 13 to 18 years old.
