Sauk's ABC AmeriCorps Ask for Donations for School Supplies Drive

As the first day of school approaches, school supplies is on everyone’s mind. Sauk Valley Community College’s AmeriCorps program will sponsor a school supplies drive August 12-31 at the College and various area stores to collect supplies for district preschools through middle schools.

AmeriCorps asks the public to consider donating any and all items that a child may need throughout the school year from pencils to backpacks. “Our schools and children are in need of many items this time of year,” said Sarah Woodin, AmeriCorps assistant. “Many students come to school with very little. Being able to have erasers, pencils, crayons, and even a back pack will make the year better.”

Supplies can be dropped off at SVCC’s Information Center, Follett’s Bookstore and the AmeriCorps office. Boxes will also be set up for collection at the Walgreen’s in Dixon, Sterling and Rock Falls as well as CVS in Sterling. AmeriCorps members will also be collecting August 12 and 13 from 12-4 p.m. at Wal-Mart in Dixon, Sterling and Rock Falls.

For more information of the school supplies drive, contact SVCC ABC AmeriCorps’ Sarah Woodin at 815-835-6428.
