SVCC Math Club and History Department Feature Documentary “Top Secret Rosies”

The Sauk Valley Community College Math Club and SVCC History department will present an hour-long PBS documentary entitled "Top Secret Rosies" Wednesday, November 2 from 12:20-1:20 p.m. in the Mathis Theater.

“Top Secret Rosies” details the classified work of four US women mathematicians during World War II and their important role in ensuring victory in the war. These four women left their families during the war to work in a classified government role where they calculated by hand a variety of ballistics trajectories for commanders on the front lines of war.

Following the viewing of the film, a discussion will follow to discuss how these women have impacted the world of math, computer science and engineering. Anyone who has an interest in these fields, World War II or wants to view a great part of history will enjoy “Top Secret Rosies.”

For more information on “Top Secret Rosies,” contact Steve Shaff, Math Club advisor, at 815-835-6238 or email at shaffs@svcc.edu.
