Find Out More About

Chemistry

Chemistry is the scientific study of how atoms and molecules interact with one another in reactions to form new substances.

Career Expectations

The study of chemistry prepares students to work in healthcare, research and development, science education (teaching), engineering purification, and chemical analysis. Many chemists pursue careers in healthcare fields such medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry.

Necessary Skills and Attitudes

Chemists, like all scientists, need to be able to perform accurate and precise measurements, analyze data, and communicate their results to multiple audiences. A chemistry degree helps students develop necessary transferable skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork. Mathematical ability is necessary at multiple course levels and essential for career success. Advanced degrees, often the Ph.D., are required for career advancement
