Critical thinking and analytical skills are essential to the career success of political scientists. A background in economics is valuable. Those interested in international careers will benefit from foreign language training and overseas experience, such as study abroad.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Provide students with knowledge of political and social institutions and the roles and functions of the institutions in society.
- Provide training in evaluating and understanding contemporary political and social issues, both domestic and international.
- Prepare and educate students towards civic engagement.
Meet the Faculty
Paul R EdlemanPaul R. Edleman is Professor of Communication and Political Science. He received his Ph.D. and M.A. in political science from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, his M.A. in communication studies from the University of Kansas, and his B.S. in political science from the University of South Dakota. He also coordinates SVCC’s Study Abroad activities and is a member of the Illinois Consortium for International Studies and Programs (ICISP) executive board. He has done international programing in several countries, including Cambodia, Pakistan, and the Philippines. Paul’s primary interests are in international relations and global education.
