Function of the Job

Coordinate the provision of supplemental services to students with documented disabilities; provide clinical mental health counseling services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations and auxiliary aides for students with documented disabilities.
  2. Serve as a liaison for students, faculty, and staff in the provision of accommodations.
  3. Supervise administrative assistant, note-takers, lab assistants, tutors, and sign language interpreters employed to assist students with disabilities.
  4. Coordinate and supervise the budget expenditures related to disability support services.
  5. Collaborate with outside agencies providing support to students with disabilities.
  6. Provide ADA awareness training including updates and/or presentations to small and large groups.
  7. Stay current with changes and best practices regarding the ADA and post-secondary environments through professional development opportunities, list-serves, and communication with outside experts and post-secondary professionals.
  8. Provide and support College recruitment services.
  9. Be knowledgeable about ADA as amended: Title II, Title IX, and section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Understand the differences between post-secondary and secondary ADA implementation regulations.
  10. Provide career advising for students with disabilities as appropriate.
  11. Provide clinical mental health support and intervention for students.
  12. Provide clinical supervision as needed for licensed mental health professionals employed by SVCC.
  13. Lead the ADA compliance initiative on campus.
  14. Provide coordination with high school counseling and special education offices to assist in the transition of students with disabilities.
  15. Collaborate with academic advisors concerning student educational planning issues including course planning and selection.
  16. Provide consultation and recommendations on assistive technologies to appropriate individuals.
  17. Coordinate acquisition and distribution of assistive technologies on campus.
  18. Knowledge and interpretation of disability documentation including psycho educational evaluations.
  19. Develop, in cooperation with the supervisor, annual goals and objectives.
  20. Prepare and submit to the supervisor an annual report summarizing accomplishments of the previous year.
  21. Serve on institutional committees related to the welfare of students.
  22. Serve as a trained Title IX confidential resource for the College.
  23. Serve as Administrator on Duty on a rotating basis (3% tort).
  24. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
  2. Must have strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
  3. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  4. Must be able to provide verbal/visual presentations to faculty, staff and students on a daily basis.
  5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.
  6. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as required.

Personal Interaction

Frequent contact is made with all levels of College personnel, students, and outside organizations in relation to routine departmental services and duties and in providing appropriate assistance and information as requested.

Supervision Excercised

Administrative and functional supervision over Disability Support Services personnel.

Requirements

Master’s degree in counseling or social work with professional license (LPC, LCPC, LMSW, LCSW) with two years of related work experience required. At least one year of experience evaluating and interpreting disability documentation at a community college preferred.

Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring conditions, events and circumstances present through daily College operations, and communicating observations to the appropriate supervisor or taking necessary actions to correct, prevent or limit safety problems.
