Function of the Job

Coordinates the operation of the testing center at Sauk Valley Community College.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Shape testing policies within the Student Services Division through active participation in discussions and decision-making processes.
  2. Stay abreast of institutional, state, and federal testing regulations and vendor requirements to ensure adherence and accountability.
  3. Develop and implement operational procedures for the testing center, overseeing day-to-day functions effectively.
  4. Manage recruitment, supervision, evaluation, and scheduling of testing center specialists and student workers.
  5. Provide comprehensive training and certification for testing center staff to foster professional growth.
  6. Assist in acquiring, developing, and maintaining technology resources to enhance testing services.
  7. Devise strategic plans for program growth and continuously evaluate processes for improvement.
  8. Collaborate with faculty and testing center staff from other institutions to provide comprehensive student testing services.
  9. Aid in coordinating, administrating, and processing payments for testing services efficiently.
  10. Manage contract negotiations and partnerships with private entities and testing companies to fulfill community needs and generate revenue.
  11. Oversee the administration of all tests, ensuring compliance with protocols, including remote testing when necessary.
  12. Maintain strict security protocols for all testing materials in accordance with guidelines.
  13. Evaluate and upgrade the testing center's environment and equipment to meet evolving standards.
  14. Publicize and schedule testing sessions in alignment with center hours.
  15. Verify candidate eligibility and communicate procedures clearly and monitor testing sessions to maintain a secure environment, promptly resolving conflicts.
  16. Prepare and maintain accurate documentation for testing programs. Report testing issues promptly to the appropriate authorities.
  17. Assist in evaluating placement cut-off scores and updating testing software and guides accordingly.
  18. Attend annual training sessions, establish goals, evaluate operations, and contribute to committees as needed.
  19. Review and update information on the Testing Center’s website.
  20. Assume all other reasonable and professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
  2. Must have strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  3. Must be able to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from supervisor and to subordinates.
  4. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products and troubleshoot software.
  6. Must be able to communicate effectively by email and phone on a daily basis.
  7. Must be able to work evenings as required.

Personal Interaction

Frequent contact is made with College personnel, faculty, students, and the general public in the routine performance of duties and in providing routine departmental services and duties.

Supervision Excercised

Functional and administrative supervision over the testing center personnel and work-study students.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and three years of related experience required preferably in testing, leadership, training, teaching, or counseling. Must have strong interpersonal skills and detail orientation skills.
