Police Academy
Sauk Valley Community College Police Academy
Sauk Valley Community College is dedicated to teaching and
scholarship while engaging the community in lifelong learning,
public service and economic development.
The SVCC Police Academy is committed to becoming Illinois' gold standard rural police academy by providing the highest quality instructors for the state curriculum while focusing on proactive police strategies such as community policing, procedural justice, de-escalation, and realistic, effective officer survival training. Our administrative team stays current with local, state and national developments and training trends. To further fulfill our dedication to teaching and scholarship, we relentlessly pursue and develop new, proactive law enforcement training ideas and training curriculum.
Basic Law Enforcement Academy
To attend the SVCC Police Academy, a person must be hired as a police officer or deputy sheriff by an authorized municipal law enforcement agency or county sheriff's office that is recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB). Only a law enforcement agency can register a person for the BLE Academy.
Our 16-week program, offered each quarter, applies proactive police strategies, innovative training practices, and cutting-edge officer survival training to prepare recruits to be highly qualified officers.
Adult learning is central to the program. All instructors are state-certified and active in their fields of expertise. Students will take part in a variety of practical scenarios designed to encourage procedural justice and test officer awareness and survival tactics. Scenarios will include traffic stops, crimes in progress, building searches, court testimony, investigative stops, and a variety of everyday situations common to police work.
A regularly scheduled personal fitness program is conducted during the academy program and will incorporate strength and conditioning.
The firearms program is set up with safety first. All instructors are certified range instructors and are either retired or full-time law enforcement officers. To ensure safety, we maintain a close ratio of students to instructors.
Seating Request
The seat request form is for law enforcement agency use only. Seat requests do not guarantee a spot in the requested class, they simply provide priority and advance registration. Once registration has opened for each future class, agencies will be contacted one-by-one following the date/time stamp on the seat requests.
