1st Semester at SVCC

  • Meet with an academic advisor to create a degree plan and set a graduation date goal.
  • Explore majors. If you need help deciding on a path, consider enrolling in CSS 110 Career Exploration & Planning.
  • Research application requirements of prospective transfer schools.
  • Become familiar with SVCC campus resources.
  • Get involved on campus.

During Your Time at SVCC

  • Visit college campuses.
  • Meet with your academic advisor to update your degree plan as needed.
  • Complete the FAFSA each fall semester (opens October 1).
  • Apply for scholarships through the SVCC Foundation each semester.

1 Year Before Transfer

  • Apply to 2-3 transfer schools. Watch deadlines as some specific programs may have their own application deadlines.
  • Be sure to submit all required materials, such as transcripts or essays, with your applications.
  • Learn about housing and transportation options at your transfer school.

1 Semester Before Transfer

  • Apply for scholarships through your transfer school.
  • File your intent to graduate in Student Self-Service.
  • RSVP for Commencement
  • Submit a request in Student Self-Service to have your official SVCC transcript sent to your transfer school after your degree is completed.
  • Submit any other necessary materials to your transfer school.

What can impact your transfer timeline?

  • Delaying or changing your decision on a major and/or transfer school
  • The number of credit hours earned each semester. If your goal is to complete an Associate degree in two years without any summer classes, you will need to complete an average of 16 credit hours each semester.
  • Not passing, withdrawing, or being withdrawn from courses
  • Not having a high enough GPA for your intended program at your transfer school
  • Not following your degree plan
  • Self-advising
