Frequently Asked Questions
How long has the Writing Center been at SVCC?
The Writing Center opened in late February 2020. It is made possible by a federally
funded Title III educational grant.
When should I use the Writing Center?
Whenever you are working on a piece of writing and you'd like some additional feedback
or just to chat through some ideas. We are happy to work with you on any piece of
writing at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to final draft. We
can work with you on outlining and organization, citations and formatting, sentence-level
concerns and grammar, and everything in between.
My writing assignment is for a Nursing course. Can I still use the Writing Center?
Definitely! We work with all students from all academic disciplines and departments.
Whatever you are working on, we're happy to help however we can.
I'm planning to transfer to another college after Sauk: can I get help with the application
essay/scholarship essay/personal statement required for the application?
First of all, congratulations on completing your time at Sauk! Secondly, yes, absolutely!
We'll work with you on any type of personal, professional, or academic writing, and
essays that lead to enrolling in a college, winning scholarship money, or landing
a job just happen to be some of our favorite things.
How long is a consultation at the Writing Center?
We schedule appointments for an hour, though if you and your consultant finish early,
you are not required to stay for the full time.
Is there a limit on how often I can use the Writing Center?
Nope! You are welcome to use our services as often as you would like, and you are
also welcome to just come hang out and write even when you do not need a consultation.
How can I contact the Writing Center?
You can contact us by emailing writing.center@svcc.edu or by calling 815-835-6398. We'd love to hear from you.
