Function of the Job

Develop and strengthen positive long-term relationships with business and industry representatives to address workforce needs while assisting with talent supply and demand. Establish initiatives that educate and train individuals to meet the needs of current and future business and industry while maintaining a sustainable competitive economic environment. Develop positive relationships with local businesses and manufacturers, develop mutually beneficial partnerships for the College, and enrich communication with business leaders. Facilitate economic development collaboration by hosting events that support regional economic development initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Create and organize customized training opportunities and processes with regional business leaders by generating leads through face-to-face interaction, electronic, and phone communication, based on community and workforce demands.
  2. Expand outreach and recruitment efforts of faculty and students of all ages for Career and Technical Education programs and pathways.
  3. Create customized training instructor packets, invoicing contracts, supply orders, purchase orders, and print requests.
  4. Research, establish, and oversee new curriculum development/implementation and partner with the Dean of CTE of ICCB approval when warranted.
  5. Evaluate instructional staff to ensure the quality of course offerings for customized training courses.
  6. Expand professional development opportunities based on community and workforce demands.
  7. Strengthen communication with and between employers, students, and staff for the purpose of facilitating employment and internship opportunities. Present workshops to educate students and community members on the skills and qualities necessary for career development.
  8. Lead, organize, and promote events such as Manufacturing Day, SVCC annual job fair,  WACC Explore Sauk Day, on-campus recruitment visits for employers, and industry specific job fairs. Work with all internal and external constituents to ensure successful events.
  9. Recruit, train, and orientate instructors from SVCC, local manufactures, and businesses for the purpose of teaching business customized training programs.
  10. Coordinate with the SVCC Marketing department in development of campaigns for program events/training, flyers, brochures, and publications.
  11. Facilitate discussions with BEST to ensure the appropriate use of services.
  12. Present career services to and assist students, especially those in career-technical fields with resume preparation, interviewing skills, networking skills, networking and internship opportunities, and identifying job openings.
  13. Develop and maintain a job opportunity board for students and community members.
  14. Oversee the Career Closet on campus including soliciting for donation, organization, advertisement and student access. 
  15. Coordinate, supervise, and implement the Traffic Safety Program for the 15th Judicial Circuit Court, including the hiring and supervising of Traffic Safety Instructors. 
  16. Oversee the Flashover Training program. 
  17. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
  2. Must be able to provide verbal/visual presentations to local community groups.
  3. Must have strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  4. Must have the capability to travel to the communities served by the College on an as needed basis.
  5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products and social media.
  6. Must to be to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends; occasionally off-campus.
  7. Must be able to work in a team environment.

Personal Interaction

Maintains regular contact with various departments, appropriate personnel, area coordinators, and faculty to ensure that programs in the community service area function effectively.

Supervision Excercised

Functional supervision over customized training and traffic safety instructors and work-study students.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with four to five years of experience in business or education, word processing, organizational skills, and strong collaborative communication skills required; master’s degree preferred. An understanding of adult learning, marketing, sales, and an understanding of employee training and business operations strongly preferred
