Function of the Job

Assist the Vice President of Academics and Student Services in the operation of the Academic Services division.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for hiring, training, observing, and reviewing of career/technical faculty (excluding health professions).
  2. Responsible for quality assurance of dual credit courses in career/technical education, including the coordination and scheduling of course offerings, approval of dual credit faculty qualifications, observation and evaluation of faculty, and providing appropriate professional development opportunities.
  3. Assist in resolving student complaints and concerns relating to faculty or instructional matters.
  4. Assist in the preparation of the instructional schedule for each semester, and in reviewing or submitting the final schedule to the Vice President of Academics and Student Services.
  5. Assist with ensuring that appropriate and qualified faculty exist to teach all courses offered.
  6. Assist in the preparation of the annual Academics Services division budget.
  7. In collaboration with the faculty leader, develop and assist with annual goal planning for career and technical areas through the operational process.
  8. Serve as a member of the Leadership Council.
  9. Coordinate and plan the Perkins budget and its associated initiatives.
  10. In collaboration with the Vice President, assist in preparation of all state and federal reports for the Perkins and other grants administered by Academic Services.
  11. Strengthen communication with and between employers, students, and staff for the purpose of facilitating employment and internship opportunities.
  12. Lead and organize the efforts for all Manufacturing Day events. Work with internal constituents, high schools, and local manufacturers to ensure successful events.
  13. Oversee the direction of the Adult Education department, supervising the Program Director of Adult Education.
  14. Oversee the direction of the SVCC Police Academy, supervising the Director of the SVCC Police Academy.
  15. Serve as night administrator on a rotating basis. (3%* tort)
  16. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  1. Must understand and support the mission of the community college.
  2. Must have strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  3. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  4. Must be able to communicate effectively by phone and email on a daily basis.
  5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.
  6. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends.

Personal Interaction

Maintain regular contact with departments, divisions, appropriate personnel, and career/technical faculty to ensure that programs in the academic services division function effectively. Frequent interaction and personal contact with community leaders, the general public, outside organizations, and state governing boards pertaining to the academic services division.

Supervision Excercised

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over designated faculty, Director of the SVCC Police Academy, and the Program Director of Adult Education.

Requirements

Master’s degree required. Evidence of support for the mission of a comprehensive community college with business or industrial experience, appreciation of teamwork, excellent oral and written communication skills, and computer literacy required. Knowledge/experience with alternative teaching/learning options, curriculum design and evaluation is a must. Must have the ability to contribute to instructional vitality and growth.
