Function of the Job

Serve as an advisor to the President as a member of the executive team, contribute to the success of the College in its entirety and to provide leadership for and administration of units related to the foundation, grants, government relations, and marketing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Increase public and private financial resources for the College.
  2. Identify strategic priorities for which funding is required; develop the funding equation to provide for them.
  3. Oversee the deployment of strategic and operational goals for public and private fundraising.
  4. Recruit and nurture volunteers to raise and manage funds on behalf of the SVCC Foundation and the College.
  5. Lead/engage in friend-raising and fundraising.
  6. Promote public policy that is beneficial to the College mission.
  7. Establish the public policy agenda for the College that includes to plan and deploy the strategic and operational goals designed to implement the public policy agenda.
  8. Engage professionals and volunteers to assist in the College’s public policy efforts at local, regional, state, and national levels.
  9. Identify grant opportunities and lead/engage in grant writing to further the College’s resources.
  10. Serve as a member of one local community organization.
  11. Oversee the Small Business Development Center to ensure that programs and activities consistent with the goals and objectives of the Illinois Small Business Development Network.
  12. Lead collaborative economic development efforts that enhance the mission and goals of the College.
  13. Serve as the College’s primary point of contact for legislators; develop and maintain relationships with legislators.
  14. Oversee alumni engagement efforts.
  15. Oversee the development of the Business and Community Education department, including the for credit CDL certification.
  16. Develop and maintain relationships with area businesses, industry, and local, state, and federal government agencies for the purpose of developing events and classes for Business and Community Education.
  17. Oversee the marketing of Business and Community Education for the purpose of growing training and lifelong learning opportunities.
  18. Oversee the development, coordination, and operation of Sauk Valley Community College’s student recruitment program.
  19. Oversee the development and successful implementation of the Impact Program with all eighteen (18) school districts and home school students.
  20. Responsible for recruitment of students to the Impact Program.
  21. Ensure that all 400 of Sauk Valley’s nonprofits have access to Impact volunteers.
  22. Supervise videographer and ensure quality branding for all public facing and internal videos.
  23. Lead the College’s Impact and Economic Development Initiatives.
  24. Develop annual goals and prepare/maintain budgets for all supervised departments.
  25. Serve as a member of the College’s administrative team including service on the President’s Cabinet.
  26. Serve as Administrator on Duty on a rotating basis. *3%
  27. Supervise and coordinate the activities of the marketing department, print shop, foundation, Business and Community Education, student recruiting, Impact Program, and the Small Business Development Center.
  28. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Essential Functions

  2. Must have strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  3. Must be excellent at time management and prioritization skills.
  4. Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  5. Must be able to work non-standard hours as required.

Personal Interaction

Frequent contact is made with all levels of College personnel, students, the general public and outside organizations in relation to routine departmental services and duties and in providing appropriate assistance and information as requested.

Supervision Excercised

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over the Advancement Specialist, Executive Director of Donor Relations and Economic Development, Videographer, Stewardship Coordinator, Foundation Assistant, Impact Program Coordinators (2), Student Recruiter and Dual Credit Coordinator, Director of Business Training and Community Education, Marketing Coordinator, and Senior Graphic Designer/Print Shop Supervisor.

Requirements

A master’s degree or higher in philanthropy, communications, or higher education or equivalent education and six years of experience required with demonstrated skills and knowledge of grant writing, foundations, and government relations. Experience with Marketing, Economic Development, Lifelong learning, and Student Recruiting preferred. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and public speaking skills are required. Experience in higher education is strongly recommended.
