Director of Admissions and Academic Advising

FUNCTION OF THE JOB:

Develop and implement goals, procedures, and controls for the Admissions and Academic Advising department. Develop, plan, and implement various strategies to attract students to the College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage day-to-day operations of the Admissions and Academic Advising department including supervision of personnel, train new staff, schedule required training, and administration of budgets.
  2. Coordinate professional conference attendance, and assist with university articulation meetings, State University Transfer Day, Private Illinois College Day, and the Major Fair.
  3. Coordinate with ITS concerning reporting needs for the Advising and Admissions department.
  4. Oversee updates for the admissions and advising website and other marketing materials for the department.
  5. Assist with coordination of student retention initiatives, and transfer and placement implementation.
  6. Provide necessary reports to college officials, outside agencies, and auditors.
  7. Oversee activities related to Dual Credit, Jump Start, and New Student Orientation.
  8. Enforce College policy related to student admissions and academic advising.
  9. Serve as Administrator on Duty on a rotating basis (3% tort).
  10. Serve as a member of the administrative team, including service on the administrative council and cooperate with all members of administration in addressing issues that relate to both student support services and the overall mission of the College.
  11. Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Must support and understand the mission of the community college.
2. Must have strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and analytical skills.
3. Must have the ability to communicate effectively by phone and email on a daily basis.
4. Must have strong computer literacy skills.
5. Must be able to work with Microsoft Office products.
6. Must be able to provide oral/verbal presentations to students, faculty, staff and general public.
7. Must be able to use and read information stored on microfilm.
8. Must have the ability to work weekends and evenings as required.

PERSONAL INTERACTION:

Frequent and personal contact is made with all levels of College personnel, faculty, students, the general public, and outside organizations in relation to specific departmental duties and services.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over designated Admissions and Academic Advising personnel.

REQUIREMENTS:

Master’s degree in related field with a minimum of five years of work experience in higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Supervisory experience in an educational setting and experience with Banner preferred.

TORT LIABILITY STATEMENT:

Coordinates the College Risk Management Program in a capacity appropriate to this position. This includes, but is not limited to, monitoring conditions, events and circumstances present through daily College operations, and communicating observations to the appropriate supervisor or taking necessary actions to correct, prevent or limit safety problems. May serve as a member of a committee that supports the health, safety and/or legal rights of visitors, students and staff.
